Wall Street

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is the follow up movie to the original 1987 Wall Street, also directed by Oliver Stone. The average person will not like this movie and after this opening week, it will not last long at the top. I enjoyed the movie because it takes place in 2008 and centers around the housing bubble and how greed, rumors and political connections saved and destroyed the largest financial institutions. The names have been changed, but those that followed the crisis know who the movie is referring too. If you want to get more out of the movie, read this first and then go see it. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/12697/64796

Stock Market Ready to Drop

We have formed the right side of the head and shoulders pattern on the S & P 500 at 1150. There is a small chance that the S & P can break above that and Skyrocket higher, but more that likely, the S & P will drop to 900 by the end of this year.  Chances are that the large funds will be selling this week to lock in the 3rd quarter numbers. Also putting pressure will be massive selling to avoid higher capital gains taxes next year. I think these stocks are overvalued. NFLX – $163, PCLN – $343, Bidu – $102 and AMZN at $159. FYI -I have puts on these stocks as of today. I may be early on these puts, so invest at your own risk.

Silver and Gold

As gold is hitting record highs, some may think it’s time to sell. The odd thing about the current rise in gold is that it seems that it can only go up. If the economy gets worse then people buy gold for a safe haven. If the economy is improving then people buy gold for fear of inflation. Silver was only $9 an ounce 2 years ago, now it’s $21. Where can it go from here? Look for gold to reach $2500 by 2013 and silver to hit $50.

The Town

Ben Affleck directs and stars in The Town,  another movie about a rough neighborhood bad guy thief that you hope gets away with it. This movie once again shows Ben can capture the Boston attitude on the big screen better than anyone else. Look for this film to have legs at the box office as well as win some awards for Affleck. It’s not Good Will Hunting, but good enough to get special notice.

Overpriced stocks

As I write this, the stock price for NFLX is at $142. I hope it reaches 200. This stock will fall hard eventually and here is why.  Netflix does not have anything! What do they have that you cant get elsewhere? I can rent a movie for $1 at the supermarket. They have nothing. Streaming movies….so what Apple, Youtube, Hulu  etc…etc… This stock will fall hard. Timing is the key to profit from it.  Keep your eye on it.

3 D Overload

Okay, I like 3D don’t get me wrong, but are we really going to be needing to wear those glasses soon at every movie? Not likely. I can see paying extra on movies like Avatar in 3D, but when they start putting 3D on movies like Jackass, who’s the real jackass?

2010 Election

The theory is that Democrats will stay home while Republicans and Tea Party voters are highly motivated and will turn out in big numbers.  Anything can happen between now and then, but more than likely there will be a major power shift. What can Obama & the Democrats do to stop this train? You might think these are crazy ideas, but here are a few things that could change the outcome. 1) Military action of any kind.  People do not want to disrupt government in the middle of a crisis. 2) We find or kill Osama Bin laden. This one needs no explanation. 3) Economic last minute surprise like a tax holiday or some other gimmick with the bias media buying in and pushing it hard. I doubt the people will buy this one.

stocks

I  think the S & P 500 has formed a classic head and shoulders pattern and we are going to fall to about 900 on the S & P by the end of this year.
